Give the Gift of lower Taxes This Season!

For those of you with a hard to buy for or “I already have everything” person on your list, consider giving a donation to one of the amazing not-for-profit organizations that are Members of the Chamber of Commerce. In alphabetical order:

Brooks Animal Protection Society (aka BAPS): BAPS is the gold-standard of animal shelters, and we are lucky to have a no-kill facility like this in a City of our size! They take cash donations, as well as in-kind donations like used towels, cat and dog toys and of course volunteer hours! Please consider giving them a helping paw this Christmas or in 2018!

Brooks Community Adult Learning Council (aka BCALC): Helping newcomers learn English and understand local society is one of the greatest gifts a person can give. If you have time to volunteer, or gently used reading material (books or magazines that would interest adults with a very basic level of English), please get a hold of BCALC to help!

Diabetes Association Brooks & District: The Diabetes Association’s goal is to meet the needs of persons with diabetes through services, education, advocacy and to support research efforts to lead to a cure. Please consider giving them a donation (financial or of your time) to help find a cure for diabetes.

Habitat for Humanity: Habitat for Humanity partners with families who are in need of decent and affordable housing. If you donate to them, they will provide you with a tax receipt and a digital Christmas Card to send to your loved one letting them know that a donation has been made in their name.

Newell Community Action Group: Please consider giving a donation to the Newell Community Action Group. They provide amazing services to differently abled Albertans that allows them to live independent lives in the community, provide respite to family members who look after differently abled folks and in extreme cases around-the-clock support for those who need constant care. They also help with paperwork, planning support and can connect folks with resources that could make a difference in your life.

SPEC Association: If you want to support children, families and the common good in our community, consider giving a donation to SPEC. Their goal is engage families and the community in the wellbeing of children and youth, and they do a phenomenal job doing it. If you would rather give a gift rather than a donation, please consider purchasing their 2018 calendar. For $25 you are entered into a daily draw for a prize from a local retailer. Kyle from the Chamber was seen with two earlier this week… warning, quantities are limited. They will be at the Brooks Canadian Tire on Saturday. Look for them!
